Jacqueline: [00:00:00] Well, I'm very excited to have you on the show today. I've been a long time fan of Wise and certainly interested in hearing your story.
I don't know too much about your background, but I know it's pretty diverse, so I'd love to just kick things off, um, in asking you Yeah, what, what is your background, and I know you've had your hands in a few different types of, of products in the wellness space, but what incentivized you to start this one in particular?
Juraj: So to start, to start Wiseberg, uh, the main, there were two main factors that. At the end of, uh, 'cause before this company I was, uh, I was running a health and wellness company like us based for, for company, for five years.
Jacqueline: Wow.
Juraj: And towards the end, end of it, I felt, uh, like a call or urge to do something more even.
It was, uh, it was a device that was helping a lot of people, you know, they have [00:01:00] better sleep and more energy, things like that. But I, mm-hmm. Wanted to do something that has even stronger impact on people. And this brought me to adaptogenic mushrooms. And the more I was, uh, the more I was like learning about them and reading various stories and following some companies, the more I knew that this is something that.
I wanna do something I wanna be like involved in. So I was, uh, I was starting like, uh, my own small, like MMVP minimum viable product, uh, with, with the adaptogenic mushrooms. And, uh, it was quite, quite private, small group. Uh, not like three people knew about it.
And then all of a sudden, uh, a, a guy approached me.
Here in C Republic that they have a product and they, uh, they would like to, [00:02:00] uh, help me to expand to the US market. And, uh, and so, so I met him and, uh, when we, we were discussing what it is he told me. It's honey infused with adaptogenic mushroom extracts,
which, which blew me away. 'cause for the last like three months I was working on something like similar.
I, I was, I was very early, but still that such a strong. Synchronicity occurred. 'cause no, no one knew that no one picks, uh, outside of our company knew what I was doing, what I wanna pursue. And that all of a sudden someone approaches me with this, you know, honey infused with adapt producing mushrooms that is, uh, working really well and that they would like to, uh, expand, uh, to the US market.
So that was the first thing.
Jacqueline: What timing.
Juraj: Yes. Yes, exactly. And then, and then [00:03:00] the, second most important thing related, uh, relates to this, I would, I would, I would go along and start this, uh, even just, just with this synchronicity. 'cause I wanted, you know, to do something without epigenic mushroom. But then his, uh, his, uh, my, my, uh.
My partner, a business partner is, uh, is uh, his name is Daniel. And so he shared a story why he founded the company, and it's
it's a bit, bit, sister Uri? I heard briefly about that. Yeah. Can you share that too? 'cause that's such a powerful
yes, of course. So when we were discussing why he started the company. He told me, you know, like my, uh, sister passed away, uh, because of cancer.
It was really fast and unexpected. Uh, no one knew she was sick. She kept it, uh, hidden from, from e from everyone. And, uh, [00:04:00] one, you know, one day someone just call me from the hospital, you know, your sister is in the hospital is not looking good. Uh, just, just, just come here. So. So he, he came there, but unfortunately after a couple of days, she passed away and it, it hit him really hard 'cause uh, they were really close. Uh, and, uh, so, and sometime after, after this, he met a guy, it was his business partner that. Had stage four cancer in various parts in his body. And he told him that he's now like cancer free. And, uh, so, so this, you know, spark curiosity with Daniel 'cause he has this, you know, loss in the family. Now he's meeting someone that made it through [00:05:00] and is cancer free.
So he asked him like, like, how did you do that? And he said, you know, I was just, I opened and studied, uh, you know, old books, how they were doing it, you know, before. He found out about adaptogenic mushrooms, and he said, so, okay. So I, so he started to, uh, you know, collect adaptogenic mushrooms, doing extracts at home and infusing those extracts, uh, into honey to improve the, the potency.
And at the same time, uh, honey is, uh. He's a conservate, you know, like a great, great conservate. So, so this is what he was doing. And after a couple of months he was cancer free, which was confirmed by the doctors. So when he heard, when Daniel heard this, he immediately wanted, you know, to do something, uh, about it.
'cause so, [00:06:00] 'cause he wanted to help other people, uh, you know, with their chronic inflammation problem because. Cancer, uh, obesity, diabetes, all of that, the underlying condition is chronic inflammation. And as we now know, the adaptogenic mushrooms are the strongest fighters of chronic inflammation that we know of.
So. So, yeah, they got together, uh, started a company and, uh, and then after about two years, uh, he reached out to me that he would like to expand. And for me, again, these two things were, were a no brainer. And, uh, yeah, 'cause uh, I love to work in the health and wellness and help with the products and, and, and supplements, like help people.
So I, I said yes and yeah, here we are.
Jacqueline: Wow, that's incredible. I can certainly see that your, your passion shows through uri. I don't know if you know too much about my story, but my mom was [00:07:00] diagnosed with stage four breast cancer back in 2018. Um, so she's been dealing with that for the past several years and she's the reason why I started this platform.
Well and strong. So I certainly have done. A lot of extensive research on different complimentary modalities, right? To address cancer. I'm a huge advocate of an integrative approach, and I also have read a lot of interesting facts about honey, right? Especially for our immune system. It's antimicrobial.
Like you said, it addresses inflammation, but never have I ever considered combining it with adaptogens until I came across. So I think that's incredible. But for listeners who have never heard about the term adaptogens, can you just do like a high level one-on-one overview on what they are?
Juraj: Sure. So they are a specific kind of, uh, of mushrooms and, uh, sort of like an elite, uh, elite, uh, elite kind. 'cause not every. Uh, [00:08:00] mushroom can be called adaptogenic, and they need to, they need to meet three criteria. So the first one is, uh, they have to be non-toxic. Uh, their effects have to be, uh, non-specific and also like normalizing.
They have to have normalizing effects, which is these three. Specifications to have in one, let's say plant or food or, or medicine is very rare because non-toxic means that you cannot overdose with them. And this is really rare. 'cause for example, even if you have like healing, various healing herbs, you have to uh, let's say be cautious, uh, you know, with how much you take.
And this is not the case with adaptogenic mushrooms. There is, yeah, there is no, let's say like, like, like limit how much you can take. So, uh, [00:09:00] couple of hundreds, milligrams after one or two, two grams is, is still, still, still fine. So this, this is the first thing, like non, non-toxic. The second thing that they need to be, have to have non-specific, uh, effects.
That means, so for example, you have a drug for, uh, uh, for a headache or knee pain or, or stomach problems. So you take a drug for a specific, uh, specific problem. And adaptogenic mushrooms, they have this nonspecific, uh, thing that. They work very universally. So what they do, they lower the inflammation in, in the body.
So, and inflammation is causing a lot of, uh, a lot of like problems and, and health problems. So they don't work with one single thing. They work on, on various levels in, in, in the body. So they are very, they [00:10:00] are safe and universal and, uh. The third thing is normalize. They have normalizing effects. That means that, you know, for example, when you have coffee, it just, uh, you know, gives you, gives you e energy and puts your, uh, you know, your, your feeling of, uh, of, of energy and things like that.
But normalizing effects with, uh, the adaptogenic mushrooms. It means that they can, uh. Upscale and turn, well, I mean, turn up and turn down your, your, uh, your, for example, your nervous system or your I immune system or, or you know, so whatever is needed in the bottom. So, for example, uh, let's take as an example, cocoa Caco. So you, you, when you take that, uh, take that, uh, during the night or before sleep, it will calm you down. You know, it'll calm down your nervous system, but when [00:11:00] you take it, uh, you know, when you take it during the day, it'll boost your nervous system. Uh, so you will feel more, more energized. So this is, this is one of the also very unique ways how the adaptogenic mushrooms who work they.
Normalize, they go both ways. They normalize, uh, you know, whatever needs to be normalized. They, they turn up or turn down the, the immune response or stress response in the body. So this is on a, on a high level, how they work and why they are so special.
Jacqueline: Yeah. It's so fascinating. I've heard that they are basically used as immunomodulators, right? In the sense that they help the body regulate. Its its immune response. And again, it, it depends upon like. Like an individual's immune system, right. To however much like your body needs from it. Like that's what it will take.
Um, I'm a huge adaptogen fan, Uriah. I take Ashwagandha occasionally. [00:12:00] I take Rhodiola when I need to focus, uh, typically, you know, pre podcast recordings. But I am curious, which adaptogens do you use in the Wise Honey, and how did you go about choosing those? Because as you know, there are so, so many.
Juraj: Yes, that, that, that's a great question. So when Daniel started. Uh, he flew to, to China, uh, when they have the longest history. Uh, of course. 'cause there's the, you know, traditional Chinese medicine that has, uh, like more than 3000, yeah. More than 3000 years of history with, uh, with herbs and, and mushrooms and, and, and everything.
You know, when we compare that to. Let's say the modern Western medicine. How long is it? Like 200 years or, I don't know. 300 years. Or
like some, yeah, something like that. But this is like 3000. So it's a long history, so it's proven by [00:13:00] time. So he flew to, uh, flew to China because China is. Is the number one producer of, uh, adaptogenic mushrooms.
And there are certain areas, very specific, uh, given the geolocation and uh, and, and the weather and everything where they are great conditions to grow these. And where, and he met there, uh, traditional Chinese medicine masters. He shared with them the, the story and he told them, I. He told them to help him to put together blend or various blends that would help with, uh, with, well basically helping people that go through chemotherapy, uh, and, uh, that have like, like joint base or, and brain, brain fog and, and, uh, digestion problems and [00:14:00] things like that.
So, so. So he wanted to put together the three, three various blend, and they decided what, uh, adaptogenic mushrooms will go into the plant. And at the same time, they designed the ratio between them. So, because it's not only. What you put in into that, but also the ratio, you know, how they stack on, on, on each other, and what's the ratio between it?
So this was designed by them, and we used in most cases, uh, like seven most known adaptogenic mushrooms like REI cord eps, uh, chaga.
So these are used in our plans. And, uh, in some there, there's, uh, uh, hot horn edit, uh, edit or, uh, uh, I [00:15:00] forgot. Uh, now the, for, for the detox, it's, it's, it's a herb. Uh, that's a really, a really great for
Jacqueline: it wormwood? Yes.
Juraj: Yes,
Sweet warm wood.
Jacqueline: Yeah, I was gonna comment on that. I noticed that was in the detox blend. Yeah, no,
that's great. And can you explain too, for listeners, the benefits of wormwood?
Juraj: yes, so warm wood is, is great, you know, antibacterial and antipas herb, and it is no matter you know what diet you have, it's always, and e, even for healthy people, it's always great to do like a. Parasite cleanse, uh, you know, like one, once a year. Uh, I would even recommend like, uh, doing, doing enemas and, and and things like that.
'cause when I was back in 2012, was struggling with my health a lot. And this brought me, you know, to, to my like healing journey and health and wellness [00:16:00] journey.
Jacqueline: That's how
Juraj: and I was.
Jacqueline: Right?
Juraj: Yes, yes. Uh, and I was overweight. I had 200 pounds, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high cholesterol, chest pain, and I was in my, uh, in my twenties.
So, uh, and the doctors just told me, Hey, here are the pills. This is for the rest of your life. And, and yeah, I, I was, luckily I was starting slowly, uh, you know, awakened that. This is not the the path I wanna go, and I wanna, you know, like heal myself. So just while I'm mentioning this, that I had to of course, completely change my diet, but, uh, the enemas were one of the things that, that basically say like, save my life and, and really, uh, make a huge difference, uh, Eve and, and I, I would recommend it even tool like help people.
Jacqueline: Yeah, so interesting. Yeah, so much stuff to unpack there. But Uri one thing I did wanna touch on [00:17:00] too, you mentioned the different blends. So I have tried the longevity blend, I know there's an awesome detox blend and we mentioned wormwood was in that. What, like for the otherwise healthy individual, what would you recommend in terms of, of blends for someone to, to try and do they take it on a daily basis?
Like how does that work?
Juraj: Sure. So like next to me, I have the, the, the power. Uh, which is, which is basically designed, you know, for, uh, for people that, uh, you know, for act active, uh, I would call it active people, you know, that go, go to gym or run or do do any kind of like active sports and, and movement. 'cause there there is, uh, ginseng, there is more genesen than Corbis.
And Corbis we know is increasing the blood flow. And ginseng is also helping, you know, with the. Know the, the physical regeneration, but also with, with libido and, and things like that. So, so we have the, the [00:18:00] power for, you know, for this, uh, and longevity blend together with detox, I would recommend to, to, to anyone.
So the longevity would be the go-to, uh, go-to blend to go for 'cause. It is the most universal one. Uh, we have most, uh, customer testimonials that we have in, with various healings is, uh, specifically with this one combined, combined with the detox. So, so yeah, the, I would go with longevity, uh, as the, as the go-to together with detox.
And if someone is, is, is active, then I would go with the power and then we have a heart flow.
That has, yes, that has hot hor in it. So that's, uh, great for, uh, you know, cardiovascular, uh, like optimization, uh, like, [00:19:00] uh, high blood pressure, cho cholesterol, or if you sit a lot, uh, in, in, in the office or, or anywhere else.
So, so that would be the one, uh, you know, I would recommend.
Jacqueline: Interesting. And does it matter your eye, like what time of day someone takes it? Is it best taken on an empty stomach? Should they take it straight from the spoon or mix it in tea? I know there's so many different variations.
Juraj: Yes. So we definitely recommend taking it every day. 'cause it will, uh, it needs couple of days, and I mean, days, weeks until, you know, uh, it, it, uh. It starts to do its work in, in the body, and it has to be on a regular basis. So one spoon, uh, one teaspoon is, is enough, uh, each day. And, uh, you can take it direct, you can take it directly, you know, it's, uh, it's, it's, it's, sometimes it's bittersweet, but the honey makes it like more [00:20:00] sweet
Jacqueline: Yeah, I think it tastes incredible. I always look forward to taking it every day.
Juraj: Yeah. Yeah. Me, me too. I, I love, I personally love the, the, the power that I just, just showed, but, uh, I'm, I'm also like using it. I'm putting it into, into coffee, uh, which some people, you know, don't put, uh, like honey into, uh, into like hot, hot things, which I, I totally get. I just love it, you know, in the coffee or if you don't have like a boiling tea, you can put it there.
So it, it, uh, I think everyone, so for the, I would say if someone wants to be like, really precise, then just, just, uh, like eat it directly from the spoon. But if you have wanna have more experiential thing, you can put it in a coffee or tea or, or even, or even in a smoothie, as you
Jacqueline: Yeah, no, that makes sense. And you mentioned so many customers write writing reviews about how it's [00:21:00] helped with various health ailments. What are some of the most common health ailments that you've seen or you've heard that it, it's really helped to, to improve symptoms of.
Juraj: So the, the biggest one that we have, uh, is the, are the energy levels, uh, during, during the day. Uh, then it's, uh, it's brain fog. Uh. Uh, joint, joint pains. Uh, but, but we have quite, uh, I would say quite a lot, uh, testimonials, how it helped, uh, during like a chemotherapy or people that, that, uh, that were fighting cancer,
you know?
For example, like, like lung, lung cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, any, and it even help with, with dogs avoiding, avoiding surgeries. [00:22:00] So, so yeah, we have, if we have like, like this as well, which is super, you know, fulfilling. It's always, it's, it is hard to describe. It's, it's, you know, you get this feeling of, uh, like fulfilling.
When, when you get a text message or, or an email from a, from a family,
uh, member, you know how they are thankful that, that it helped all day, the father or, or sister or, or mother or brother, uh, with this and this and that. So, yeah.
Jacqueline: Yeah. No, that's so powerful. I'm so appreciative of everything that this wonderful company is doing. My mom actually, thankfully, has been, has been incorporating it into her daily routine as well. She's been on an oral chemotherapy. Your eye for the past, I wanna say like five or six months. Um. You know me, Emily is looking for stuff to integrate into her routine, and she's been, she's been taking it.
Um, I am curious too, did Daniel ever go back to the [00:23:00] original man he spoke with who cured himself of cancer to let him know that, you know, he also, like, he's starting this company and you know, he was inspired by him.
Juraj: Yeah, well,
uh,
Jacqueline: What's the
Juraj: unfortunately, yeah, no, no, that, that's, that, that, that's a great question. But unfortunately, he died. Uh, but it was not because of the cancer, it was. Sort of strange, strange, tragic incident that, uh, a car hit him and he died. And, and did Daniel describe it to me that it was really strange? He, he don't know.
Like, uh, it's not solved yet what happened, how exactly it happened, but, uh, he, yeah, he, he, he passed away. So he was not able to, you know, to like, share the, his and, and our journey, uh, of, of the, of the product. Uh, but uh, yeah,
Jacqueline: Well, I'm sure he'd be so proud nevertheless, but, uh, it's incredible that he was [00:24:00] able to connect with him, you know, prior to that. And I am curious too, URI, like in terms of honey, I know nothing about sourcing honey, but how does, how does that work? Is there a certain like source that, you know, you and Daniel go to for that?
Like, what are, what are like, I guess, the proper things to look for in terms of sourcing high quality honey? Like how does that work?
Juraj: Yes, that's also great question. So. With, with the quality of honey, the number one thing I would look for is if there are any fields around where the bees are that, uh, that where pesticides are used and, and, and GMO crops and, and all of those, because that's the, that's the worst thing. Uh, you know what, what can happen? And I know that it is really rare in the US uh, to get, uh, organic honey, uh, because of, you know, of, of the PEs pesticides [00:25:00] everywhere. But we, our, our headquarters is in Europe, in in Prague. In, in central Europe and we have a really great, uh, like a beekeeper that has, uh, his bees no near woods and fields.
And there are no pesticides. No chemicals, like, no, nothing like mile miles, miles away. So, so this is the, this is the most crucial thing, you know, that it's no chemicals are, are in the honey. And then you can have, I don't know, like raw honey pasted honey, as as we have.
Jacqueline: What is pasted? Honey, I was gonna ask you, 'cause I've never heard that term before.
Juraj: So if you imagine like peanut butter, honey. Uh, peanut butter. Peanut butter
that consist, yeah, that consistency of, of peanut butter. So that's, uh, that's how a pasted honey looks like and feels like the [00:26:00] consistency.
It's, uh, so the usual honey you have sometimes it's clear, uh, and, and it's, uh, quite liquid, sort of, it's dense, but still liquid pasted honey keeps his, the, the consistency from top to bottom and it's, and it's more like peanut butter.
Jacqueline: Interesting. Yeah.
Juraj: It's more, more dense. It, it's, it's more, more dense. So, and.
Jacqueline: I.
Juraj: We do that, we do that process. So the adaptogenic mushrooms that we put, the extracts that we put in, uh, perfectly blend equally, uh, you know, throughout, uh,
Jacqueline: Smart. Yeah. Very cool. Yeah, so that's evenly distributed. That makes sense. Um, in the same vein of, of high quality, right? I mean certainly here in the US you always have to be careful, um, with regards to, you know, where you're sourcing your herbs from, right? Because there's a lot of heavy metals in the [00:27:00] ground and, you know, soil quality and whatnot.
So in that same vein too, your eye, like, how do you ensure like high quality sourcing of the adaptogen, uh, the, the adaptogenic mushrooms, right? That you guys use?
Juraj: Sure. So Daniel, when, when he went to, when he went to China, he was doing, uh, business with China with some other other things, uh, for more than 10 years. And he had a local, local Chinese guy helping, helping him with everything. And one of the things that, uh, one of the tasks for him was to find the, the best, uh, supplier, uh, you know, of, uh, adaptogenic mushrooms.
And he found. Uh, like a company that was doing it for more than 100 years, they were doing extracts of, of adaptogenic mushrooms. So, so of course, so they, he went to them and they have, you know, they provide these extracts [00:28:00] to, you know, to Japan, to Canada for even to pharmaceutical companies, to, uh, cosmetic companies.
So they are, and they have. All the certification, you know, for, for, for metals and pesticides and, and all of that. I mean, you, you just have to do that. Uh, you just have to have that. So, so that's, uh, you know, and he went there. He has, he, he saw the whole process of, of, uh, you know, how, how they are doing it.
So, so the first thing was that he saw it. Uh, with, you know, in, in person. And then, uh, he, of course we have all the, uh, you know, all the, all the papers that show how, how clean it is. And on top of that, we use the highest potency currently available, which is, uh, which is 25 to one, uh, the extract extraction ratio.
So usually, usually
with.
Jacqueline: [00:29:00] right?
Juraj: Usually it's around eight to one. Uh, so that means for one pound, uh, you know, of, uh, of, uh, of extract, you will use eight pounds of, uh, of. a fruiting body and we only use fruit fruiting body. So 25 to one means that to create one, uh, pound of, uh, like super extract, we, we need to like, uh, we, we extract it from, from 2025 pounds.
Jacqueline: Wow, that's incredible. That's gotta be a fun role too, trying to figure out like, you know, the measurements in which adaptogens to include. I am curious too, RAI, what does the future of wise hold? Like, are you, and feel free, like you don't have to share this, but are there any other new products potentially coming to market beyond what's currently available?
Juraj: Yes. Uh, one is like super simple change and that is that we will introduce smaller jars [00:30:00] that, that people ask for, mainly because of traveling, you know, 'cause this is like two, two pound jar and, and it's, it is heavy and, and it is heavy. So. It's 32 ounces, so we will introduce 14 ounce, uh, 14 ounce jar. Uh, and, uh, but that's like a easy, easy, a bit easier thing to do.
But we also, what we will introduce, I'm not sure when this will air, but definitely in, in sometime in October this year, uh, we will introduce a butter with adaptogenic mushrooms.
Jacqueline: Very exciting.
Is there
Juraj: it'll be
Jacqueline: that too? Or just peanut butter and
Juraj: uh, just peanut butter, uh, flavored, uh, with, with, uh, with, with the adaptogenic mushroom extracts. 'cause we know people, people of it and we wanna provide some healthy, you know, like, uh,
Jacqueline: I love that.
Juraj: alternative.
Jacqueline: That's great. [00:31:00] Honestly, it's all about finding just like daily habits or daily things we consume and integrating healthy things with those, right. Like habit stacking. So I, I really love that. Have you tried four Sigmatic, Yuri, the Mushroom coffee company?
Juraj: Yes, yes. The, they were the first one. You know, that started my journey about like two years ago.
Uh, when, yes, uh, when, you know, I started to be interested in adaptogenic mushroom. So, so for sigmatic, then it was mud water,
Jacqueline: Yeah.
Juraj: that brought me down, down the journey.
Jacqueline: Oh, I love that. Does Danielle Broda, does that name ring a bell? She was the national educator of Four Sigmatic, and she actually was the first person I ever had on my podcast.
Um, yeah, she's a, she's a friend of mine, but I learned a ton about just, you know, functional mushrooms through her. That's her thing.
But I, I love companies like that. I know there's Rise, right? RYZI think is another one. But yeah, I'm a huge adaptogen [00:32:00] enthusiast. I'm so glad that you are in a position that you know is fulfilling to you and you're doing so, you know, such good. And I think it's wonderful what you guys are doing. If I ever find myself in Prague, I'll have to give you and Daniel a visit.
Juraj: Yeah, definitely you. You are welcome. At any, anytime.
Jacqueline: Thank you. Well, we are nearing our time Uri, but I did wanna ask, um, where can listeners find you? Where can they learn more about Wise? Any other links you'd like to share that I can include in the episode notes?
Juraj: Sure, so people can find us on uh wise earth.com. That's WY uh, SE Earth. Like do.com, uh, we have the, the same Instagram, uh, handle. And, uh, if someone would like to, uh, you know, approach, uh, me, di directly, there's a contact form on the website that goes directly to me if they have, uh, any questions about, about anything.
And if. This podcast [00:33:00] inspired anybody that, uh, you know, would like, help us to spread the word, uh, or test out the products? Uh, yeah, just, uh, happy, happy to know about, about you.
Jacqueline: Awesome. Well, I'll be including the links to all of those in the show notes. Um, you guys were also gracious enough to share a discount code with my followers that I'll also be including in the episode notes, so stay tuned for that. But my last question for you, and this is always my favorite one to ask, and that is what does being well and strong mean to you?
Juraj: That means to have good relationships and be healthy. that's the basis, uh, of, of, of life. 'cause without that, without good relationships and being healthy, uh, the, the life has no meaning,
Jacqueline: So true. Can I agree more? Well, Uriah, it was such a pleasure meeting with you. Um, I'm really excited to share this with list. And yeah, I'll let you know when it goes live.
Juraj: of course. Thank you so much, [00:34:00] Jacqueline, for having me. I.
